PROGRESS FROM 12 TO 13 MONTHS: Mom, dad and Marcus joined the office staff on a weekend cruise during the weekend of 8/7/2000.  Marcus had a good time walking around the pool deck and the ship.  Marcus graduated to a booster chair on the cruise and was very pleased to be eating like the grow-ups.  Marcus has continued to nurse mostly at night but is eating more and more food during the day.  Marcus loves to be chased from behind and giggles and laughs so much that he falls down and then quickly gets back on his feet and runs off to continue the game.  The family took a trip to Beaches in Turks and Cicos in June where Marcus discovered being in a pool and Mom and Dad got in some Scuba Diving.

PROGRESS FROM 9 TO 12 MONTHS: Marcus began crawling at 8 months and pushed through both front teeth and upper teeth by the end of his ninth month. Marcus began day care at 9 months at Kindacare for half a day and adapted well to the caregivers and with playing with the other kids. Marcus began feeding himself at around 9 months. Marcus came down with a resistant strain of Strep Pneumonia that required 14 days of having to have an intramuscular shot into his thigh muscle. Marcus recovered fully without residual complications from the Strep infection. At around 10 months, Marcus was pulling himself up and was walking with assistance and had graduated to a Sippy cup. At 10 months, Marcus went on a trip to the Beaches Resort in Turks and Caicos so the parents could go Scuba Diving while Marcus was being cared for that the Nanny Service. Marcus got into the water for the first time and had a wonderful time splashing about with daddy. Marcus also learned how to suck out of a straw for the first time in enjoying a Pina Colata at the Pool Bar with Daddy. At 11 months, Marcus was beginning to walk without assistance. The first steps that Marcus took were about 5 steps when the family was attending a Bar-B-Q at a friend's house on June 22, 2000. At 11 months, Marcus was 30 inches long and weighed 26 pounds. Marcus has continued to be in the 95th percentile for his size and weight. At around 11 months, cabinets and doors became an intriguing element around the house and child locks had to be installed. By Marcus' Birthday on 7/10/2000, Marcus was carrying objects around the house and was getting into everything that had a knob or handle to pull or open. Marcus' Birthday Party was great with 22 adults and 5 children in attendance. Marcus received many great toys and gifts and thank you cards were sent out to all that attended. Marcus for his birthday party was presented a special cake and Marcus used both hands to enjoy the desert. By the time Marcus was finished with his birthday cake, the cake was everywhere on Marcus' face, hands and high chair and everyone in attendance had a good laugh.

PROGRESS TO 9 MONTHS: Marcus grew an inch and a pound when he was two weeks of age.  At six weeks, Marcus was 12 lbs. and 21 inches long.  Marcus at three months was 15 lbs. and 23 inches long.  Marcus began teething at 10 weeks and had two bottom teeth come through the gum at three months.  Marcus at four months was 17 lbs. and was 25 inches long.  Marcus at four months was grasping with both hands and was sitting up with assistance.  Marcus sat up without assistance at five months of age and at the same time began saying Mamma periodically when he needed something.  Marcus had his six-month check-up and weighed 20 lbs. and 12 oz. and was 26.5 inches long. This placed Marcus in the 90th percentile for his size.  Marcus had his first cold at 5.5 months old, but it only lasted a couple of days.  Marcus at six months of age continued to improve with his crawling movements, fine motor hand skills.  Marcus began eating food for the first time when he was 5 months of age.  Marcus finally got his two front teeth when he was 6 months of age.  At 6 months of age, Marcus started working on sounds and was saying mama and a rough version of dada.  At 7 months, Marcus started responding to his name and asking for mama and dada and weighed 21.5 pounds and was 27.5 inches long. Marcus at 8 months was 29 inches long and weighed 23 pounds and was in the 90th percentile for his size and weight.  Marcus began walking with assistance and pulling himself up to a standing position.  Marcus began drinking out of his own cup at 8 months and continues to improve in manual dexterity and vocalization of sounds.

MARCUS' FIRST TRIP: Marcus had his first airplane ride to Baniff Canada at 8 weeks of age and Marcus had no problem with the pressure in the airplane.  Marcus, his parents and Grandparents all had a good time seeing the pristine beauty of Baniff and Lake Louise.  Marcus went on his first sailboat experience on Uncle John's boat when he was 13 weeks old and enjoyed the motion of the sailboat on the ocean. Marcus went on his second airplane ride at 7 months of age to Park City so mom and dad could snow ski and attend a seminar.

BIRTH INFORMATION: Marcus was born at 11:00 am sharp on Saturday, 7/10/1999. Marcus was 8 lbs. 2 oz. and was 20.5 inches in length.  Marcus was a very healthy baby upon delivery and was pink from head to toe with a round head and a lot of sandy brown hair. Marcus began nursing immediately and continues to nurse without any difficulty. Melanie went into labor at 4:30 am and arrived at the hospital at 5:30 am.  Melanie had 45 minutes of pushing the baby out and about 5 hours of total labor.  Considering this is Melanie's first baby, 5 hours of labor is considered quite remarkable.  Melanie went home three days later from Placentia-Linda Hospital and was at home for three weeks before returning to her practice.  A nursery has been set up at the office for Marcus.
